14th March 18 7th - Visiting Tai Chi Class

  Visiting Tai Chi Class

As a Sports Science student, it was interesting for me and my teammate to visit a Tai Chi class and understand the philosophy behind its movement, not only in Tao aspect but also seeing it as a martial arts.

We learnt some basic movements or Tai Chi that I want to spend some time to talk about it. First one is the ready posture of Tai Chi, basically is the find balance among yourself and also to relax. Then we learnt 4 moves, that I will try to describe them in English,

1st - To hold your opponent by hold wrist and armpit.

2nd - To control your opponent by twisting those mention arm part.

3rd - Try to bring your opponent to ground.

4th - To push off your opponent.

Those are pretty much all details of the moves that I can remember, and mastering it is very very hard. But it is quite an exciting experience, that I thought Tai Chi is usually movement for body health but in facts, it can be a martial arts if you practice it in another. Although I might not be in a Tai Chi class in the foreseeable future, this site visit experience already changed my view toward Tai Chi.

  3. Hello, I am Tang Wing Sze from group 3. I never learn Tai Chi. In my impression, Tai Chi is only for the elderly but not for teens.
I can discover some ideology of Daoist from your describe of Tai Chi. Finding balance is an important elements in Daoist and Tai Chi also focus on this.
